A Tribute to our Shankar Nag - Oggarne Shankara Pure Vegeterian restaurant Named after him on his rememberence by his fan's



Shankar Nagarkatte was born on 9 November 1954 in Mallapur village in Honnavar (Uttara Kannada), Karnataka His elder brother is the popular Kannada actor Ananth Nag.

After completing formal education, Shankar moved to Mumbai. In Mumbai, he was attracted to Marathi theater and immersed himself in theatrical activities. Incidentally, he met his future wife, Arundhathi during a drama rehearsal.

His first movie was Ondanondu Kaladalli (1978) , which was Directed by Girish Karnad (contemporary writer, playwright, screenwriter, actor and movie director in Kannada language) which was loosely based on Akira Kurosawa's masterpiece, Seven Samurai.He also got trained in Kerala for Kalaripayattu (An Indian martial art and one of the oldest fighting systems in existence it is now practiced in Kerala) for this film.

He won National award at the Delhi International Film Festival.He has acted around 80 Kannada Movies.

Shankar began his directorial with Minchina Ota (This won him seven state awards, including the best film).Janma Janmada Anubandha, Geetha, Accident (which won many state and national awards), Ondu Muttina Kathe (with Rajkumar in the lead), Nodi Swamy Navirodu Hige, Hosa Teerpu, Lalach (Hindi film).

He also directed Malgudi Day's an hindi series (based on the works of R.K. Narayan and Carnatic musician by L. Vaidyanathan composed the score. R. K Narayan's brother and acclaimed cartoonist R. K. Laxman was the sketch artist ) in 1986 produced by  T. S. Narasimhan.

Shankar Nag died in a car crash at Anagodu village on the outskirts of Davanagere town on 30 September 1990, while proceeding to Lokapur in Bagalkot district of Karnataka with his wife Arundhati Nag and daughter Kavya, in the shooting of his film Jokumaraswamy.


So in Tribute to this famous kannada icon the bangalore fans has opened a restaurant by his name at Basaveshwaranagar called Oggarne Shankara Pure Veg Restaurant
